We have regretfully learned that today (16 February) the mortar attack on the Villa Somalia area where the Presidential Residence is located, during the handover ceremony between the former and elected Presidents, has claimed civilian lives, including those of children and injured many others.

We strongly condemn and deplore this act of terrorism which has targeted Somalia’s stability and peace after the electoral process was successfully concluded.

​We wish God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives in the attack, convey our condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wish speedy recovery to the wounded.
